Not all Republican members of Congress support US President Donald Trump's tariffs against the EU. This is what CEO of Danish Business Brian Mikkelsen says after speaking with several members of Congress in the US.

- They (the Republicans, ed.) support him in all other areas, but in relation to trade policy and tariffs they completely disagree, he says.

Since Wednesday, Brian Mikkelsen has been in Washington D.C. to get an overview of what the situation with Trump's tariffs looks like. During the visit, he has spoken to several Republican members of Congress and several Republican think tanks.

- The vast majority believe that there will be a solution with Europe, and that has made me more calm and confident, he says.

At the same time, according to Brian Mikkelsen, several Republicans say that it is a priority for the US to maintain the relationship with the EU. Last week, Trump announced that the United States would impose a 20 percent retaliatory tariff on goods from the EU. The tariff has subsequently been put on hold for 90 days.

According to American media, including ABC News, several Republican voices have spoken out critically about Trump's tariffs. One of them is prominent Republican Senator Ted Cruz, who is also a Trump supporter.

- Tariffs are a tax on consumers, and I'm not a fan of raising taxes on American consumers. My hope is that these tariffs are short-lived and can lead to lower tariffs worldwide.

- If in 30 days from now, 60 days from now, 90 days from now we have high American tariffs and high tariffs on American goods in every country on the planet, that would be a terrible result, Cruz has previously said according to ABC News.

Senator Rand Paul is also a Republican and a Trump supporter. But he is not a supporter of tariffs.

- Tariffs are taxes, and Americans pay the price, he has previously written on the social media X.

Even though the retaliatory tariff of 20 percent has been put on hold, a basic tariff of 10 percent will continue to apply.

And it is here to stay, says Brian Mikkelsen.

- The world has changed forever, because there will be some form of tariff.

- It is completely the wrong way to go, and it will make us all poorer, but it does not mean that there will be a definite trade war, he says.
