The Danish Democrats have stormed into Ringkøbing-Skjern, where the new party will receive no fewer than seven mandates, and with support from the Christian Democrats, the Socialist Party, the Danish People's Party, the Liberal Alliance and the Conservatives, Mads Fuglede is now the first mayor of the Danish Democrats. The parties thus have 16 mandates out of the 29 in the city council. Only the Liberal Party and the Social Democrats are out.
- We have a political project where we think we would like to have a flatter structure and less mayor-driven development. The municipality needed it, said Mads Fuglede last night, when the agreement had been reached.
He said that the parties are jointly working on a political program that will be filled out in the coming days.
Mads Fuglede has, among other things, promoted himself as a great skeptic of the energy policy that has been implemented in the municipality, which is the municipality where the most renewable energy has been installed. When he announced his candidacy for the city council in the summer of 2024, he indicated that, among other things, it was to put an end to what he said was "greed that drives the intentions of the energy projects," he told Dagbladet Ringkøbing-Skjern at the time.
- Running as a mayoral candidate could be a way to do that. But I am prepared to point to almost anyone who wants to lead Ringkøbing-Skjern towards a different energy policy, Mads Fuglede told Ritzau at the time.
Now it was the mayoral post that the Danish Democrats landed. He takes over the mayoral post from Hans Østergaard (V), who did not run again.
The Left, which instead had Lone Andersen as its mayoral candidate, is still the largest party with eight seats, a decline of three. The Liberal Party has been in an electoral alliance with the Social Democrats, which is one down to three, so the two parties together have 11 mandates.
But that wasn't enough, as Mads Fuglede managed to secure the three mandates of the SF, the five mandates of the Christian Democrats, and one mandate from both the K, DF and LA.
