LOLLAND: Things are going well at the Port of Nakskov in the Municipality of Lolland. Among other things, Vestas has a large blade factory at the port, where the blades for the company's flagship wind turbine V236-15.0 MW are produced.
However, if, for example, the hundreds of jobs that Vestas has in the municipality are to be secured in the future, there is a need to expand and straighten the shipping channel of the Port of Nakskov, because the large deep-sea ships that transport the turbine parts from Nakskov to the whole world need more water depth.
Vestas has previously indicated that there is a need for expansion, if the company is not to look elsewhere. Other companies also need to know that the improvements to the shipping channel will become a reality before they invest further in the area.
The Municipality of Lolland is aware of this. That is why it was decided back in 2018 to start the project. The applications for it were submitted in 2019, but since then the processing of the expansion has dragged on. In October 2022, the Danish Coastal Directorate granted permission to carry out the restructuring and expansion of the shipping channel.
Authorities have not transferred information to each other
But the sluice permit has not yet fallen into place. After it was approved in March by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency after almost four years of waiting, it has been appealed to the Environmental and Food Complaints Board, and this is where the case now lies. But the lack of transfer of information between the authorities has again delayed the processing of the case, much to the frustration of the mayor of Lolland Municipality, Holger Schou Rasmussen (S).
- We have of course pointed out that there are consequences when this case is delayed again. That is why I am completely incomprehensible to the fact that it is now at a standstill because the necessary information has not been forwarded from one government authority to another, he says in a press release and continues:
- I just have to say that after five years of case processing, there is still no decision. You can't live with that! The case processing must be in order. That is not what we are talking about at all. But good case processing is also about timeliness, and I honestly miss that there is someone in the state who takes responsibility for that part.
