BILLUND: Billund Municipal Council has chosen to proceed with two solar cell projects, which will now undergo an extended citizen dialogue before a final decision is made on implementation. The two projects are among 16 applications for renewable energy plants that the municipality received earlier this year. The municipality announced this in a statement.

The first project is a 194-hectare solar cell park at Nollund-Urup, which can potentially supply 30,000-35,000 households with green electricity. The project is being developed by the law firm Kirk Larsen and Ascanius. The second project is a smaller park of approximately 12 hectares at Filskov Energiselkas, which will function as an energy community and either supplement or replace the local biogas plant. This project has been developed by the citizen-owned company Filskov Fremtid ApS and is expected to be able to supply electricity to approximately 2,300 households.

Both projects will now go through a phase of citizen involvement, where, among other things, citizen meetings will be held and dialogue groups will be established between developers and affected citizens. Only then will the municipal council make a final decision on whether the projects should be initiated and included in the municipality's overall planning, including environmental assessments and public hearings.

- We will not achieve our goal with the green transition alone, and I am very pleased that stakeholders in the local area are taking responsibility. At the same time, it is crucial that we take into account the neighbors and local communities that the projects affect. That is why the upcoming citizen dialogue is so crucial, says Stephanie Storbank (V), mayor of Billund Municipality.
