Two of the country's leading renewable energy companies, Andel and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, have established a joint consortium that will work towards setting up offshore wind farms close to Zealand. The two companies announced this in a joint press release.
Specifically, the newly formed consortium intends to bid for the upcoming tender for the construction of the Hesselø Offshore Wind Farm in the Kattegat and Kriegers Flak II in the Baltic Sea. The two farms will have the capacity to supply electricity equivalent to the consumption of approximately two million private households.
- We are very happy and proud to form this strong strategic partnership with CIP, a company with solid expertise in the development, construction and operation of offshore wind farms. Andel's investment program will invest up to 90 billion DKK in growth and the green transition until 2035. Now we are together with CIP, and it is our clear goal to win the tenders for Hesselø and Kriegers Flak II, says Jesper Hjulmand, CEO of Andel.
Earlier this year, a political agreement created the basis for the largest Danish expansion of offshore wind to date at a historic nine GW. The Danish authorities have selected attractive areas for new offshore wind farms in the North Sea, Kattegat and the Baltic Sea, including Hesselø and Kriegers Flak II, through a screening process followed by feasibility studies of the areas.
Andel and CIP see the continued development and expansion of offshore wind in Denmark as being central if Denmark is to maintain its leading global position within renewable energy.
- It is of the utmost importance that we keep the transition going, and at Andel and CIP we are ready to do our part of the job. Andel has strong competencies within the operation of electricity supply and trading of energy in large volumes – both financially and to end customers. So Andel is a partner that complements our skills really well, says Jakob Baruël Poulsen, managing partner at CIP.
Hesselø Offshore Wind Farm is scheduled to be completed in 2029, and Kriegers Flak II in 2030. The two parks will have a total installed minimum capacity of 1.8 GW.
