AARHUS: For a long time, the energy company NRGi has tried to get Aarhus Municipality to approve plans to erect two 220 m high wind turbines at Aarhus Harbour. But now the Department of Technology and Environment in Aarhus Municipality has processed the application and turned the thumbs down. This is reported by Jyllands-Posten.
"Technique and Environment has completed your application on the above terms and must announce the rejection of the proposal to initiate a local planning process for the establishment of wind turbines with a height of 220m at the location in question at the port," according to Jyllandsposten in the rejection, which concludes with the following:
"It will be possible to request a local planning process for another location of wind turbines at the port, if you can reach an agreement with the port on a suitable location."
According to Eva Møller Sørensen, Area Manager for Planning and Construction at Technology and Environment, the rejection of the 220 m high turbines is due to the fact that the desired location of the turbines will "have a significant impact on the many new homes on Aarhus Ø and on the entire city center of Aarhus." However, the rejection of the 220 m high turbines does not mean that turbines at the Port of Aarhus are excluded. In a follow-up email to NRGi after the rejection, Teknik og Miljø stated that they would be positive about an application for 150 m high wind turbines.
