The EU Commission will postpone tariffs on US goods by two weeks. This is what the EU Commission's trade spokesman, Olof Gill, says, according to the French news agency, AFP.
- The EU's countermeasures, which were announced on March 12, will all come into force in mid-April. This gives more time to discuss with the US government, says Olof Gill, according to AFP.
US President Donald Trump has imposed a 25 percent tariff on steel and aluminium imported into the US. The tariff applies to all imports of the two materials.
This also affects European and Danish exports, and the decision from the US President prompted the EU Commission to present a countermeasure.
Countermeasures for 194 billion kroner.
The EU Commission will respond by imposing tariffs on goods from the US worth 26 billion euros. This corresponds to almost 194 billion kroner. The Commission has published a 99-page list of new products that could be subject to tariffs. The majority of the products on the list fall within the categories of poultry, fruit, vegetables and alcohol.
The first part of the tariffs was originally intended to come into effect on April 1st and the second part of the European tariffs on April 13th.
However, the EU Commission has always hoped that it would be possible to reach a negotiated solution with the US administration to avoid a trade war.
