19-year-old woman grabs steering wheel and is charged with reckless driving
A passenger car hit a tree along Farsøvej near Farsø on Wednesday evening after a 19-year-old female passenger grabbed the steering wheel while driving.
This is according to the head of the North Jutland Police, Christian Tilsted.
The police received the report of the traffic accident at 9:18 p.m.
- The passenger grabbed the steering wheel and took over the steering. This caused the car to go into the ditch. This caused the car to turn 180 degrees, after which it ended up in a tree, says the chief of police.
The 19-year-old woman was sitting in the front seat next to the driver's seat when she grabbed the steering wheel.
The police estimate that the car was traveling at a speed of about 110 kilometers per hour when it crashed.
There was no argument before the young woman grabbed the steering wheel, says the chief of police.
Five people were in the car when it crashed. They are an 18-year-old woman, three 19-year-old men and the 19-year-old woman in question.
No other road users were involved in the traffic accident.
Ambulances were sent to the scene after the traffic accident was reported. It was determined that none of the five people in the car had sustained life-threatening injuries.
Neither the driver of the car nor the other people in the car were under the influence while driving, the chief of police said.
The 19-year-old woman has been charged with reckless driving by endangering the life and safety of others.
The police have seized the car for the purpose of confiscation.
When there is suspicion of reckless driving, the police can seize the vehicle. If the court subsequently decides that the vehicle should be confiscated, it belongs to the state and can be sold at auction.
