The Port of Odense can look back on a 2023 with great activity, where the occupancy rate of the buildings was 98 percent, and the total number of leased port areas increased by 12 percent.

In 2023, the port experienced growth in all four strategic business areas, with wind companies in particular taking up more space at the Port of Odense, which is focused on providing the best framework for facilitating the green transition. This resulted in a significant increase of 18.5 percent in leased square meters to wind companies at the Port of Odense in 2023 compared to 2022, the port said in a press release.

The positive development is also reflected in the accounts. In 2023, the year's net revenue and other operating income amounted to 279 million kroner and the result from primary operations increased by 26 percent compared to last year, and amounted to 81 million kroner. DKK in 2023.

The year's result shows a profit of DKK 79 million with a profit margin of 29 percent with steadily increasing equity, which has reached DKK 1.43 billion. However, the profit is slightly lower than last year, when the profit was DKK 103 million. Equity increases to DKK 1.43 billion, and there is generally great satisfaction with the result.

- This is another strong result, and it clearly shows that our focus on the four strategic business areas, including offshore wind, is bearing fruit. The continued positive development is an expression of the fact that things are going well for customers at the port, and that the port's employees are putting a lot of effort into implementing the strategy so that the framework at the Port of Odense matches the customers' needs. This allows the Port of Odense to continue to invest in delivering the best conditions for key companies within the green transition, says Chairman of the Board, Lars Therkildsen.

Jobs back at level with closed steel shipyard

The progress at the port is not only reflected in the port's turnover. It can also be seen in the number of employees at the port's premises. Thus, 3,200 people walked through the gates of the Port of Odense every day last year, which exceeds the 2,700 employees who were employed at Odense Steel Shipyard when the decision to close the shipyard was announced in 2009.

There is still a large job potential for the port's customers, and there is a long way to go to the approx. 6,800 daily employees at the shipyard when employment peaked, but nevertheless the former shipyard area on Lindø in Munkebo now generates thousands of local jobs again.

- It is a milestone for us, and we are very satisfied that the activity at the port has reached that level. It is an expression that over the past many years we have provided the right opportunities for the industry and customers at the port. It is a positive spiral, because when the companies at the port grow, and things are going well for our customers, we have a better opportunity to operate and develop a port that best supports the contribution to the green transition in Denmark and Europe, says Carsten Aa, CEO of Odense Havn A/S.

More jobs may also be on the way in the future. In 2023, work continued on the establishment of the world's first Robotic Center for large structures at the Port of Odense.

Large Structure Productions (LSP) under the University of Southern Denmark is expected to be completed in 2025, and is one of several unique test and technology centers at the Port of Odense, where the world's leading test center for nacelles for wind turbines, Lindø Offshore Renewables Center (LORC), also raises innovation and quality in Danish industry.

- It is crucial that the Port of Odense is not only a wind port, but also a knowledge port. We facilitate the green transition by offering our customers optimal facilities for their production. We want to create an environment where we combine heavy industry with heavy knowledge here at the Port of Odense, so that together we can create a powerhouse for wind, knowledge and growth - and develop new solutions to the challenges of the future, says Carsten Aa.
