The potential of a completed port expansion to 650 million DKK is now causing the Port of Hanstholm to initiate a collaboration with Hardy Jørgensen from Esbjerg. As a consultant in Multimodal Transport Solutions, he will help to kick-start the commercial exploitation of the investments that the port has used.
Hardy Jørgensen's company will help to convert the attractive location with easy and fast access to both the North Sea, the UK and the transatlantic area into attracting more freight traffic in addition to traditional fish handling. That part of the business has in recent years alone meant that fish worth over one billion DKK has found its way through the Port of Hanstholm.
Other business areas such as container traffic are an opportunity that needs to be cultivated even more. In the spring, the Icelandic shipping company Eimskip began a container route between Hanstholm and Thorshavn in the Faroe Islands. It is the expanded port with extra berth space, a large basin and increased water depth that makes expansion possible. In particular, there are now better and calmer access conditions in all weather conditions due to a new outer pier. This should help ensure more different types of goods to the Port of Hanstholm.
