KERTEMINDE / ODENSE: A proposal to interrupt the planning process for a controversial expansion of Odense Port was voted down by a majority in Kerteminde City Council on Thursday, writes Fyens Stiftstidende. The proposal had been submitted by Kristian Hald from the citizen list Hverdagens Stemme, after internal emails recently revealed that Odense Municipality had tried to delay the publication of a traffic analysis until after the election.
After the city council meeting, the proposer called it regrettable, but expected: "What I also notice is that the tone has become harsher towards the entire port expansion project among some parties," he tells the newspaper.
Among the opponents of stopping the port expansion, the justification was, among other things, that there has been "an election campaign on the subject" and that it would be a hasty decision. Eight of nine S-city council members, the Conservatives, the Danish People's Party and the Liberal Party voted against the proposal, while the Liberal Alliance, the SF and the Unity Party voted in favor.
