The Council for Electrical and Gas Technical Safety has had a new composition from 1 January 2025 and will also advise the Minister of Industry and Trade Morten Bødskov (S) with an increased focus on safety in the green transition.

The Council will be reduced from ten to six members, who in the next two years will particularly deal with technical safety in the transition to green gases such as hydrogen. This is stated by the Danish Safety Technology Authority in a press release.

The six council members have been appointed by the Minister of Industry and Trade and represent the Confederation of Danish Industry, Energinet, Evida, the Association of Consulting Engineers (FRI), Green Power Denmark and TEKNIQ Employers. In addition, there is the chairperson, Rector Per Michael Johansen from Aalborg University, as well as representatives of the Danish Safety Technology Authority, which acts as the secretariat for the council. They will contribute to uncovering barriers, challenges and solutions in the balance between safety and green energy.

- The ambition is that the newly formed council will strengthen the Danish Safety Authority's knowledge and initiatives, so that the authority can deliver the right knowledge to political decision-makers and generally contribute to setting the quality and pace of the green transition, says Deputy Director General of the Danish Safety Authority Frank Kargo.

He highlights that significant changes are taking place in the gas sector in recent years, especially with the development of PtX technologies, and that this development is expected to accelerate further in the coming years.

- It is therefore crucial that the Council for Electrical and Gas Technical Safety has a technical and strategic focus to support development and ensure the right balance between safety and green energy sources, says Frank Kargo.

The first meeting of the new Council for Electrical and Gas Technical Safety will take place in March 2025.
