NKT has entered into a multi-year partnership with German energy company Mainova to supply high-voltage land cables for the upgrade of the power grid in Frankfurt am Main.
The agreement runs until 2033 and includes close cooperation and ongoing deliveries of primarily 110 kV HVAC cables to the city's transmission network. The cable manufacturer said in a statement.
The German power grid is undergoing continuous development due to the transition to renewable energy and increasing electrification. The partnership is part of Mainova's work to modernize the infrastructure and increase transmission capacity in line with the growing demand for electricity in Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main region.
- As a driving force in the energy transition, we rely on strong cooperation with NKT to strengthen security of supply and future-proof our energy infrastructure. Through the partnership, Mainova is promoting one of Germany's largest infrastructure projects to expand the Frankfurt electricity grid for the benefit of the population, the economy and a sustainable energy future in Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main region, says Peter Arnold, a member of the Mainova board of directors.
Cables and accessories for the projects covered by the agreement will be manufactured at NKT's factories in Germany, including the high-voltage factory in Cologne.
- We are pleased to continue the close cooperation with Mainova to support the ongoing development and upgrade of the Frankfurt electricity grid. The partnership provides a strong foundation for strengthening the city's transmission capacity in relation to the increasing demand driven by the transition to renewable energy, says Carsten Wolff, Head of AC Onshore at NKT.
