BORNHOLM: The criticism of the State Auditors on Monday that the Ministry of Community Safety and Emergency Preparedness has no immediate solution to oil and chemical pollution at sea is echoed on Bornholm, writes TV2 Bornholm.
With a joint agreement on a fleet plan under the defense agreement 2024-2033, there may not be a prospect of delivery of four new marine environment and minelaying ships to replace the four current environmental ships until 2032.
The National Audit Office wrote in its criticism, among other things, that the preparedness until the acquisition of new ships cannot be expected to meet the legislation and international recommendations.
- It is a very serious situation. We have a rocky coast, which is really difficult to keep free of oil, explains Deputy Emergency Manager of Bornholm Regional Municipality Klaus Rønne Jensen to TV 2 Bornholm.
Due to its location in the Baltic Sea, the island is exposed and far away from emergency services from the rest of Denmark, which would come to the rescue in the event of, for example, an oil spill.
