Danish companies contributed a total of around 112 billion kroner in corporate tax in 2024, which is the second highest amount ever. The Ministry of Taxation wrote this in a press release on Thursday. The ministry has also published a list of the 100 largest corporate tax payers for the year.

The list is topped by Novo Holdings, which is the Novo Nordisk Foundation's investment company, which owns large stakes in companies such as Novo Nordisk and Novonesis.

The holding company paid 21.6 billion kroner in corporate tax in 2024, which is an increase of six billion kroner compared to the year before. Number two on the list is the Lego family Kirk Kristiansen's investment company, Kirkbi, which has paid 3.9 billion kroner in tax. Danske Bank is number three on the list. The bank paid 3.6 billion kroner in corporate tax in 2024.

In addition, a number of other banks are also in the top 10, including Forenet Kredit, which is the majority owner of the Nykredit group, Nordea, Jyske Bank and Ringkjøbing Landbobank. Ørsted is in 6th place with a payment of 2.1 billion kroner.

A total of eight Danish companies paid more than one billion kroner in corporate tax in 2024.

According to the Ministry of Taxation, two industry groups accounted for more than half of the total corporate tax. This applies to finance and insurance companies - for example banks, insurance companies and pension funds - and manufacturing companies.

Manufacturing companies are companies that produce physical goods such as medicine, food or wind turbines. The two industry groups paid a total of approximately 70 billion kroner in corporate tax.

Several companies within the energy industry are also in the top 100. These include Energinet (no. 11) with approximately 746 million kroner, TotalEnergies EP Danmark A/S (no. 40) with approximately 221 million kroner and the energy trader Centrica Energy Trading A/S (no. 41) with approximately 219 million kroner. kr.

Grateful Minister

Tax Minister Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen (S) extends a big thank you to the Danish companies.

- It is the companies - from the pharmaceutical industry to the local grocery store - that keep the wheels turning, create jobs and make it possible for us as a society to invest in schools, health and elderly care.

- It is truly impressive and an important foundation for our common welfare society, she says in the announcement.

Danish companies pay 22 percent in tax on their taxable income. However, as a result of an additional tax for financial companies, the banks have paid 26 percent in tax in 2024.
