At the end of 2025, the Norwegian Petroleum Fund had a value of just over 21,000 billion Norwegian kroner - or almost 14,000 billion Danish kroner. In comparison, a year ago the oil fund was worth just over 19,700 billion Norwegian kroner. This is shown by figures for the fund's investments, which were published on Wednesday, writes the Norwegian news agency NTB and the financial media E24.

The oil fund has invested heavily in technology stocks. The largest investment is in the computer chip company Nvidia with a total of 574 billion Norwegian kroner, writes NTB. The oil fund's second largest shareholding is Apple with 497 billion Norwegian kroner, followed by Microsoft with 459 billion Norwegian kroner. The Norwegian oil fund has also invested heavily in companies such as Alphabet, Amazon, Meta and Tesla.

The oil fund was established after oil was found in the North Sea. The purpose of the fund is to protect Norway's economy against fluctuations in oil revenues.

It also functions as a financial reserve and long-term savings, so that both current and future generations can benefit from the country's oil revenues. The fund writes on its website.

The Oil Fund has shares in around 7,200 companies worldwide. It is the world's largest single investor and currently owns almost 1.5 percent of all shares in the world's listed companies, according to its website.

At the turn of the year, the Oil Fund owned shares worth over 15,000 billion Norwegian kroner, writes the Norwegian financial media E24. This corresponds to 2.7 million Norwegian kroner per inhabitant in Norway.

According to the Norwegian financial media E24, it took over 20 years for the Norwegian Oil Fund to reach a value of 10,000 billion Norwegian kroner. But since then, the fund's value has only gone one way. In 2019, the oil fund reached both 9,000 billion and 10,000 billion Norwegian kroner for the first time.
