A new report from RUC, "Danes' use of news media 2020", has looked at Danes' consumption and trust in the media. In addition, the researchers behind the report have examined Danes' opinions on climate journalism.
37 percent have responded that they neither believe that the news media do a good nor a bad job of providing accurate information in relation to climate change, while 33 percent experience that the media do a good job. 20 percent believe that the media do a bad job.
It is Danes on the right wing in particular who are dissatisfied with the Danish media's coverage, the report shows. Respondents who have described themselves as either "very" or "fairly" right-wing are less satisfied with the coverage than other groups in society.
Especially those who are furthest to the right are dissatisfied with the coverage of the Danish media. Here, 57 percent of the very right-wingers believe that the media does a poor job of covering the climate.
This can contribute to creating distrust in the media, believes one of the report's authors:
- There is now a lot of climate coverage in the media, and if you think that the media is very misleading on that point, then it also has an impact on general trust, says Kim Schrøder to the trade magazine Journalisten.
The report also shows that there is a general decline in trust in the media. 46 percent of Danes respond that they generally trust the news media, while it was 56 and 57 percent respectively in 2018 and 2019.
