FREDERICIA / KOLDING / VEJLE: Thousands of district heating customers in the Triangle area woke up to cold radiators on Wednesday. This is due to an outage at Skærbækværket, which sends surplus heat into the district heating network in a number of areas in Fredericia, Kolding and Vejle municipalities.

Ewii Varme has 36,900 customers in the affected areas. According to the company, most of them are estimated to be affected. As of Wednesday noon, the status is that the heat is being restored. This is according to press officer at Ewii Ann Warren.

- We expect that most people will have heat sometime after noon. But we cannot guarantee it, she says.

The outage occurred on Wednesday morning, Ann Warren informs. A network of boilers has been set up to provide emergency heating to households and businesses that are without heat.

- It may take time for everyone to have their heat restored. Those who live close to a boiler will have heat sooner, while others who live further away from a boiler may have to wait longer, says Ann Warren.

Affected customers have been informed by text message. Winter weather and hard frost make it extra critical when the heat goes out.

- People want heat these days, so the cold is not exactly a factor, says Ann Warren.

The Ørsted company, which is behind the Skærbæk power plant, has stated in a response to TV Syd and Fredericia Dagblad that it is "in the process of restarting the plant and expects to produce heat in the late afternoon".

It is not clear what caused the outage at the plant.
