ODSHERRED: A citizen in Odsherred Municipality has become the first private individual to sue Odsherred Varme. This is reported by Sjællandske Nyheder.
The citizen has been ordered by Odsherred Varme to pay over 673,000 kroner to get out of his district heating agreement, even though he believes that he has received a written promise to get out for free. The heating company disagrees with the latter.
Sjællandske Nyheder has submitted the summons to the management of Odsherred Varme, but they refuse to comment on the matter at this time.
Several citizens in Odsherred Municipality have joined forces to terminate their contracts with the scandal-hit Odsherred Varme.
In recent months, the Appeals Board has ruled in favor of customers in three decisions and concluded that the affected citizens should be allowed to withdraw from their district heating agreements. However, Odsherred Varme has refused to comply with the Appeals Board's decisions, which are not legally binding.
The explanation from the company's chairman of the board included that Odsherred Varme is under reconstruction and has had its debt reduced by DKK 750 million. DKK, which obliges the company to do its utmost to repay the remaining debt.
- The company also does not want to risk that the decisions from November create a precedent for more district heating customers, the chairman of the board told TV2 Øst, justifying this by saying that it could have major consequences for Odsherred Varme's finances.
The district heating scandal in Odsherred started in 2024, when a comprehensive project that was to supply five towns in the municipality with district heating became much more expensive than expected.
From a budgeted price of DKK 571 million, the costs increased to DKK 1.6 billion and sent Odsherred Varme into a large debt.
Odsherred Municipality has, among other things, decided in September last year to summon the former management of Odsherred Varme. The former directors of Odsherred Varme, whom the municipality will sue, are, according to Sjællandske Nyheder, central to the case, including in connection with a surety bond against Nordea, which meant that the municipality effectively lost control of the company.
