The very current information from the Danish Energy Agency that Denmark has saved almost 30 percent of natural gas in 2022 was the good news that Brian Vad Mathiesen, professor of energy planning at Aalborg University, was able to introduce at KL's Climate Summit in Sønderborg.
- It's pretty crazy and pretty well done. And the bad news is that we have to stay at the low level to get out of natural gas dependence.
In Europe as such, there have been corresponding general gas reductions of 20-25 percent, and Brian Vad called it a feat overall, but mentioned that a relatively mild winter is part of the background.
Coordination is missing
He called the climate alliance, which now includes all 98 municipalities, enormously important. But he emphasized that we lack the coordinating element, the framework that will bring the 70 percent target into effect.
- You must help place an insanely large number of biogas plants, electrolysis plants and large heat pumps, but there is currently no overall plan for where they should be located - and thus no coordinating body that ensures that you do not go and plan exactly the same as the neighboring municipality, he said to the more than 700 participants at the summit.
He advocated strategic energy planning, thinking holistically and broadly.
And in the energy area, he suggested, among other things, changing the laws so that you reward effort instead of compensating for a nuisance.
- We must also realize that not all green solutions are green enough, and we must dare to say that we may not have people in all municipalities who are able to distinguish. That's why we need strategic energy planning.
