At the end of September, Vestas announced that the company had been selected as the preferred supplier for the 1.2 GW Polish offshore wind project Baltic Power Offshore Wind. The project is targeting construction to start in 2024 and commissioning in 2026.

Before then, however, Vestas will have engaged in Poland in other ways. The wind turbine manufacturer has announced plans to build a new factory that will assemble nacelles for the V236-15.0 MW turbine, which is the same type of which 76 units are to be delivered to the Polish wind turbine project.

- Offshore wind has good prospects in Poland, and Vestas is proud to support the country in maximizing these. The new assembly plant will leverage Vestas' expertise and experience to create hundreds of direct and thousands of indirect jobs in the Szczecin area, says Tommy Rahbek Nielsen, COO of Vestas.

The plant will be built in the Polish city of Szczecin, located near the Baltic Sea, and will be ready in the second half of 2024. Between 600 and 700 employees will be employed on site, Vestas said in a statement.

- The recent announcement of the Baltic Power Offshore Wind Project and today's announcement of a new plant are concrete examples of the value that the wind industry offers. I would like to express my gratitude to our customer and to all stakeholders involved who make this project possible, says Nils de Baar, Head of Vestas in Northern and Central Europe.
