Vestas is close to a major order for the company's flagship wind turbine V236-15.0 MW. RWE and Northland Power, which are behind the up to 1.6 GW offshore wind project Nordseecluster in the North Sea, have identified the Danish wind turbine manufacturer as their preferred supplier. Vestas said in a press release.
- We are proud to announce this preferred supplier agreement with RWE and Northland Power, two important partners, to jointly support Germany's energy goals and increase energy security. When completed, Nordseecluster will contribute significantly to the German grid with clean electricity. This agreement also demonstrates the competitiveness of the V236-15.0 MW wind turbine for projects planned in the second half of this decade, says Nils de Baar, Head of Vestas in Northern and Central Europe.
In total, Vestas will deliver 104 of its V236-15.0 MW offshore wind turbines if a final investment decision is made on the project. In addition, the parties have agreed on a long-term service arrangement for the turbines.
The Nordseecluster is planned to be built in two phases; the first phase has a total capacity of 660 MW and is currently in the application phase. The construction of this first phase (Nordseecluster A) is expected to begin in 2026 and go into operation in 2027.
The second phase (Nordseecluster B) will add an additional 900 MW to the project. The rights for this phase are expected to be tendered this year, and the construction and commissioning of this phase are in 2028 and 2029, respectively. RWE and Northland Power have step-in rights for both phases.
