Last year, Vestas was selected as the preferred supplier for German EnBW's upcoming 900 MW offshore wind farm He Dreiht, which is to be built in the German sector of the North Sea, with its new flagship wind turbine V236-15.0 MW.
Now Vestas has come even closer to the order. The wind turbine manufacturer and EnBW have signed a conditional agreement for the delivery and service of a total of 64 V236-15.0 MW turbines.
This will be the first time that Vestas can build its new model in a commercial project. It is expected to be set up for testing in Østerild later this year.
- Only with state-of-the-art and cost-effective technology can we realize offshore projects like He Dreiht without subsidies. The turbines from Vestas contribute significantly to this. Offshore wind is not only technically demanding, but also requires solid forward-looking forecasts, knowledge of the market and the willingness to take entrepreneurial risks before a final investment decision can be made, says Michael Class, head of generation portfolio development at EnBW.
To help with the installation of the turbines, Vestas has entered into a conditional agreement with Danish Cadeler.
If EnBW makes a final investment decision for He Dreiht, the offshore wind farm is scheduled to be ready in 2025.
