The incoming US President Donald Trump is demanding that wind turbines in the North Sea be removed. On his online platform Truth Social, he criticizes Britain for what he calls a failed energy policy. Trump is referring to a previously announced withdrawal by the American oil company Apache, which will leave the North Sea by 2029 at the latest.

This is reported by the Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger.

- Open the North Sea. Remove the wind turbines! wrote Trump and continued with criticism of Britain's focus on green energy.

In the autumn, Trump also criticized Germany's energy policy during the American election campaign:

- They have put up wind turbines everywhere, but the wind was not blowing hard enough. If they had continued, Germany would have gone bankrupt, he said.

Trump also shares concerns about the Apache group's withdrawal from the region. According to the company, the decision is because rising taxes make oil extraction unprofitable.

The British government, led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, has shifted its focus to renewable energy sources and will not issue new licenses for oil and gas drilling in the North Sea.

Trump, who has previously rolled back environmental protection standards and withdrew the United States from the Paris Agreement in 2020, maintains a critical stance on the green transition. His successor, Joe Biden, rejoined the climate agreement.
