There have been changes in the ownership of two Danish offshore wind projects that have not yet been built. The French company TotalEnergies has purchased the majority of shares in the offshore wind farms Lillebælt Syd and Jammerland Bugt. This is 72.2 and 85 percent respectively of the shares in the companies behind the farms, both of which have received construction permits from the Danish Energy Agency.

The sellers are the developer company European Energy and the supply company Sonfor, which is a co-owner of Lillebælt Syd. Both sellers will retain a minority share.

- Both the Kalundborg and Sønderborg areas are undergoing rapid industrial development, and we expect that the need for green electricity will increase significantly in the years to come. We look forward to developing good relationships with the local communities, says Martin Rune Pedersen, CEO of TotalEnergies Denmark.

The purchase is an implementation of a strategic cooperation agreement on the expansion of offshore wind in the Nordic region, which European Energy and TotalEnergies entered into in January. Now the agreement has finally been finalized.

- We are pleased to welcome TotalEnergies as a leading partner in the realization of these projects. We believe that TotalEnergies has the know-how and commitment needed to ensure that the projects will be a great success, says Knud Erik Andersen, CEO of European Energy.

The two parks are planned to go into operation in 2029. Both projects have been in the works for more than ten years, but have only recently received the green light from the authorities. Both wind farms are part of the nine open-door projects that were confirmed by the Danish Energy Agency in December 2023 and that have been granted exclusivity and grid connection permits. Together, they will produce electricity equivalent to the consumption of 400,000 households.

TotalEnergies is best known in Denmark for operating the Tyra field, which has undergone a major renovation and is expected to be back in normal operation soon. By then, the company will be responsible for the extraction of more than 80 percent of the oil and 90 percent of the gas produced in Denmark.

TotalEnergies is also involved in a number of offshore wind projects in Europe, South Korea, Taiwan and the USA.
