During WindEurope last month, Siemens Gamesa and Vestas presented the first concrete result of the Wind Industry Standardization (WIS) project: a joint design guideline for seafastening of wind turbine components on installation vessels. This is reported by Energy Cluster Denmark in a statement.

The guideline is intended to ensure that seafastening – fastening of components on board installation vessels – can be reused across projects and players in the industry. This can reduce waste of steel and increase efficiency, according to several of the project's partners.

- We have reached a new phase in the industrialization of the wind industry – and standardization is a central part of it. Without it, we will not reach the next level, said Marc Becker, Senior Vice President of Siemens Gamesa Offshore, during a panel discussion with Vestas CTOO Anders Nielsen and Denmark's Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard.

In addition to Siemens Gamesa and Vestas, players such as Ørsted, Equinor, RWE, Vattenfall, Fred. Olsen Windcarrier, Havfram, Van Oord and Cadeler contributed to the work, which is facilitated by Energy Cluster Denmark.

- The faster you can switch from one project or OEM to another, the more efficient your installation will be. It reduces waste, maximizes the use of vessels and provides great benefits, says Anders Nielsen, CTOO at Vestas.

WIS already has several standardization projects underway, including work on the transport of towers and pre-assembly structures.
