Record number of wind turbines visit the Port of Esbjerg: Strong service companies attract

The Port of Esbjerg will set a new record for visits from jack-up installation vessels in 2025, and the reason for this is, among other things, the close collaboration with a large number of local companies.

In the first quarter of 2025, 12 installation vessels docked in the Port of Esbjerg – almost double the number in the same period the previous year. The entire year is expected to see around 25 visits, which is the highest number ever. The port says this on its website.

Among the vessels is Wind Peak, which is owned by Danish Cadeler and is currently being prepared for the installation of one of the world's largest offshore wind farms, Sofia, in England. During its stay, the ship will be visited by a wide range of companies that, among other things, supply electricity, IT support, accommodation and steel structures.

Specifically, Nicon, Granly, Semco, E Electric, Tess, SH Group, Juhl Diving, CS Accommodation, Certex Lifting and rigging equipment, Comtech, Lysholdt and SDK are currently working at Wind Peak. This makes Wind Peak's visit a good example of how the companies at the port provide an indispensable service that is in demand.

- We are happy about the hustle and bustle. It is also a strategic focus area for us to be able to make port for the service industry. We need to do that because we have so many companies at the port that are strong in that area, he says.

According to Captain Rob Southwell from Wind Peak, Esbjerg is a natural destination for the industry.

- Esbjerg is THE hub within offshore wind, so that's why we come back again and again, says Rob Southwell, who is captain at Wind Peak. He elaborates:

- Denmark is ahead of other countries. The wind industry is a young industry, but the Danes started before everyone else and so did Esbjerg. So all links in the value chain are more developed than in other countries and ports.
