Ørsted and Eversource have previously proven to be a winning team when they won the right to develop an upcoming 880 MW offshore wind farm in New York last year in the Sunrise Wind joint venture.
Now, through Sunrise Wind, Ørsted has bid to develop even more wind in New York in the state's latest bidding round. Here, Ørsted and Eversource have bid to develop Sunrise Wind 2 in collaboration with ConEdison Transmission.
- We have a unique opportunity to build a greener economy as the world recovers from the Covid-19 pandemic, says Thomas Brostrøm, CEO of Ørsted North America, Offshore.
- Our latest bid will benefit the entire state and boost New York's green economy as we emerge from Covid-19. We are committed to doing everything we can to make New York's climate goals a reality, says Thomas Brostrøm.
New York plans to install 9 GW of offshore wind by 2035, and the state's electricity consumption must be covered entirely by green energy sources by 2040.
The Sunrise Wind 2 plans also include a comprehensive plan for port infrastructure, which will further support economic recovery plans and long-term ambitions for offshore wind in the United States.
Ørsted and Eversource are already developing New York's first offshore wind farm, South Fork Wind, which is planned to have a capacity of 132 MW.
