The expansion of offshore wind is already a matter of decision, and it cannot happen quickly enough. In Grenaa, this is also something that the port's CEO Henrik Carstensen notices.
Previously, the port was presented with a catalogue of wishes from the energy companies. Today, it is different.
- We are experiencing reservations being made in the future. It happens that you don't yet know which wind turbines will be installed. You also don't know which installation ships will carry out the task, says Henrik Carstensen.
That is also why the director is happy with the new government and in particular a new minister.
- I really hope that the new team moves forward with an expansion of the infrastructure in the ports. I think this is especially fantastic with Lars Aagaard as the new minister, says Henrik Carstensen.
Need for green infrastructure package
There is no overall national Danish plan for the expansion of Danish ports to be able to handle the large shipping task that lies ahead of the ports.
It is everyone against everyone – but as it looks now, there will be a lack of shipping capacity. The danger is that the shipping of Danish wind farms will end up abroad – or that the expansion of offshore wind will be postponed.
The Port of Grenaa already has a plan for the expansion of the port ready. When the plan was made two years ago, the great future of offshore wind was not yet known.
- Everyone says that the current capacity is not large enough. The expansion plan that we made two years ago has now become more than twice as expensive due to the current raw material prices. That's why we need a green infrastructure package so that we can get some favorable loan terms, says Henrik Carstensen.
One thing that is already under state control is the shipping lanes, and here too there is a need for a Danish strategy. But there is also a need for a unified action for offshore wind.
- You can say with a clear conscience that there are some ports here that need to be expanded, because wind is of national importance, explains Henrik Carstensen and adds:
- It's perfect timing with the new government right now also with the authority's processing of wind farms such as Hesselø.
