Port of Odense and Fayard expand and extend cooperation

The port's focus on offshore wind will not diminish, even if the collaboration with Fayard is expanded.

Fayard A/S and Odense Havn A/S have, as of 1 July 2023, entered into an agreement to expand Fayard's involvement in the Port of Odense. The parties have entered into a 30-year, non-cancellable lease agreement, in which Fayard has secured the right to dispose of shipyard facilities at the Port of Odense for the next three decades. The parties announced this in a statement.

Fayard is one of Northern Europe's largest repair yards and services, among other things, container ships, passenger ferries, tankers, military vessels and a wide range of other ships. Fayard has a central position in the green transition of shipping in relation to energy optimization of ships as well as upgrades and retrofits of the existing world fleet.

The 30-year agreement means that Fayard will permanently lease one of Northern Europe's largest docks, the so-called DOK3, which measures 335 meters in length and 90 meters in width. DOK3 has direct access to the Port of Odense's distinctive gantry crane, which can lift 1,200 tons. In total, Fayard has 160,000 m2 at the Port of Odense, divided into four docks as well as storage areas, an equipment quay, shipyard buildings, storage facilities and access to several cranes. Furthermore, Fayard can draw on the other facilities at the Port of Odense.

- We are incredibly pleased that Fayard is expanding its commitment here at the Port of Odense, and the long-term agreement is a statement of confidence. As one of Northern Europe's largest repair yards, Fayard is a growing company. The Port of Odense will support this growth in the future, especially considering the billion-dollar investments targeted at naval vessels that follow the new defense agreement, says Carsten Aa, CEO of the Port of Odense.

However, he emphasizes that the expanded collaboration with Fayard will not affect the port's focus on offshore wind.

- An increased focus on servicing and production of naval vessels in the Port of Odense will require more space, as we also want to maintain and develop our position as Denmark's largest production port within offshore wind. It is a major task, and we are now investigating how we can best expand the port's capacity and infrastructure in line with the political ambitions for Europe's energy transition and security policy independence.
