Cold and snow are hitting both Southern Europe and the Nordic countries, causing electricity prices to rise significantly in the coming days. According to OK, prices are expected to reach 5.49 kroner per kWh on Tuesday and close to 5 kroner on Wednesday, while the rest of the week looks set to offer a high and stable price level. OK states this in a press release.

- The high prices are due to the cold weather and low wind production, which are increasing energy demand in large parts of Europe. – It is cool here at home, and even colder both north and south of Denmark. This means that more gas and electricity are used for heating in large parts of Europe, and this means that the demand for energy in general is increasing. At the same time, there is limited wind, and this is also helping to keep electricity prices at a high level these days, says Troels Skipper, product manager for electricity at OK.

The forecasts show that electricity prices will fluctuate between around 2 and 5.49 kroner per kWh. kWh including electricity will be delivered in the coming days. Several countries are experiencing unusually low temperatures, and large amounts of snow have fallen in the Alps. OK encourages consumers to follow electricity prices closely and avoid using electricity during the most expensive hours in order to reduce their electricity bill.

- During the winter months, there will be large fluctuations in prices, and therefore you should keep an extra close eye on them. If you can avoid using electricity when electricity prices are right up to around 5 kroner, there is a lot of money to save on your electricity bill, says Troels Skipper.
