It comes as a surprise to the mayors of Halsnæs and Gribskov that a large offshore wind farm will be established at Hesselø, which will be in operation from 2027. This is reported by Frederiksborg Amts Avis.
Hesselø is part of Halsnæs Municipality, and the power cables are planned to be brought ashore at the protected area Heatherhill between Rågeleje and Vejby Strand and further through Gribskov and Hillerød Municipalities to a main station in Gørløse.
The Hesselø area was already designated as the location of an offshore wind farm in 2018, and the project is described in detail in a report from the engineering company Cowi from December of the same year.
The offshore wind farm at Hesselø is now part of the climate agreement that the government entered into earlier this week with a broad majority in the Danish Parliament. The offshore wind farm with around 70,200-meter-high wind turbines will produce one GW of electricity and, together with two new large energy islands, will triple the current Danish production from offshore wind.
Although Hesselø is part of Halsnæs Municipality, it is not a project that has been heard of previously in the municipality, so it comes as a big surprise.
Positive
- We have not been informed by official channels in the form of inquiries from the ministry or parliament, but I can understand that people want to make a green transition, says Mayor Steffen Jensen (S), who is initially positive about the plans.
The same is true of Mayor of Gribskov Municipality Anders Gerner Frost (Nyt Gribskov), even though it has attracted attention that the line will be dug through the protected area at Heatherhill.
- Basically, I think it sounds exciting, and it can hopefully contribute to growth in the municipality, he says and hopes that you want to be gentle with nature.
- I have great hope and faith that we will take our nature into account. That we will choose to land in places where the inconvenience associated with it is limited as much as possible, and that we will take care of nature in that connection, he says.
