The energy sector is at a critical juncture, and Denmark risks losing ground in the global competition for green technology, Green Power Denmark warns in a press release.

The organization is now launching 15 specific recommendations that are intended to strengthen Denmark's competitiveness and security of supply in the area. The recommendations include, among other things, an investment deduction of 130 percent for companies that establish or expand production of green energy technology in Denmark, as well as faster and more predictable case processing in environmental and appeal boards.

- The energy sector is a cornerstone of our society and economy. It creates many thousands of jobs throughout the country and plays a central role in our security of supply and independence. But the sector is at a critical juncture. We need to ensure that we also have a strong industry in the future that can develop and produce the green energy technologies that we as a society need, says Jan Hylleberg, deputy CEO. CEO of Green Power Denmark.

Infrastructure must be ready

Green Power Denmark also has infrastructure in focus. There is a need for upgrades to the road network and ports so that they can handle the transport of large components for, for example, wind turbines. At the same time, the sector should be better protected against security threats and unfair competition from countries such as China.

- A national strategy must ensure that the framework conditions for the green energy industry in Denmark are at least as good as in the rest of Europe. And it is important that the strategy enables Denmark to play a central role in building European security of supply and independence from imported energy and technology. Green energy is critical infrastructure, and we must be vigilant about it, says Jan Hylleberg.

Green Power Denmark highlights that the government has opened the second round of the green investment scheme, where companies within wind turbine production and PtX technology can apply for support. But the organization believes that there is a need for a comprehensive national industrial strategy with clear, long-term frameworks.

The goal is that as much as possible of the state support that comes with the tender for offshore wind farms supports production in Denmark and Europe – and thus ensures both jobs and green security of supply.
