The large Spanish energy company Iberdrola has acquired French Aalto Power for just over 750 million DKK and is thus expanding into France.
Aalto Power currently has 118 MW of onshore wind in France, but is involved in projects for a further 636 MW - including the upcoming Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm, which will have a capacity of 496 MW.
The Saint-Brieuc project will be located just over 16 kilometers from the coast in Brittany and will consist of 62 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW wind turbines. Iberdrola already owns the Saint-Brieuc project, which Aalto Power is responsible for constructing.
Iberdrola has an ambition to supply energy to one million customers in France by 2023, and Iberdrola does not rule out that more acquisitions of energy companies on the French market will be seen in the near future. Iberdrola has ambitions to add 13 GW of wind power by 2022.
