On Wednesday late afternoon, one of the turbines in the Nysted Offshore Wind Farm toppled. This is reported by Folketidende.dk.

At Ørsted, which owns the almost 20-year-old offshore wind farm, they do not yet have an explanation for why the wind turbine with its foundation toppled.

- Investigations are now being initiated that should provide an explanation for why the wind turbine toppled, says the company's communications manager Tom Christiansen.

Fortunately, the staff servicing the wind turbines were not present when the wind turbine toppled. Ørsted also states that electricity customers on Lolland have not been affected by the incident.

Ørsted has informed the Danish Maritime Authority, which has issued a warning to ships in the waters to keep their distance from the overturned turbine. The authority states that the turbine is partially underwater and is not marked. Shipping is advised to be well prepared.

In addition to Nysted Offshore Wind Farm, Ørsted also owns, in whole or in part, offshore wind farms at Anholt, Avedøre and Horns Rev. Nysted is the only one of Ørsted's farms with the type of foundation on which the overturned turbine stands.
