Danish Energy Agency :
Approves feasibility studies for Lillebælt Syd Wind Farm

The Danish Energy Agency has approved the feasibility study report for Little Belt South, which may be located 3 km from Als towards Helnæs on Funen.
13. FEB 2024 12.11

On 7 February 2024, the Danish Energy Agency approved the feasibility study report for the Lillebælt Syd Wind Farm, which consists of an environmental impact report. With the approval, the Danish Energy Agency has assessed that the feasibility study report meets the content requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act, and that it cannot be rejected on the basis of the available information that an offshore wind farm can be built in the area between Als and Helnæs on Funen.

The Danish Energy Agency's approval of the feasibility study report does not give the project developer, Lillebælt Vind A/S, the client, the right to build the offshore wind farm. However, the approval allows the developer to proceed to the next steps in the application process, including applying for an establishment permit.

The Danish Energy Agency will only make a final decision on whether an establishment permit can be granted for the project after a public hearing has been conducted on the developer's application for an establishment permit.

Environmental impact report and application for eight-week consultation

If the developer chooses to apply for an establishment permit, the application for an establishment permit, the approved environmental impact report with relevant annexes, a draft of the Danish Energy Agency's establishment decision and the consultation note from the completed authority consultation on the environmental impact report must be submitted for eight weeks of public consultation. The consultation is expected to start at the end of February if applicable. You can read more about the project and the Danish Energy Agency's decision here.

Facts about the project

The Lillebælt Syd Wind Farm includes the installation of 10-23 offshore wind turbines within a total feasibility study area of approximately 32 km2.  The turbines are to be located between Als and Helnæs on Funen – approximately 3 km from Als.
