CS WIND Offshore, formerly known as Bladt Industries, has won two contracts with Vattenfall. The contracts entail that CS Wind Offshore will produce 112 TPs for Vattenfall's offshore wind farms Nordlicht 1 and 2, which are located 85 km north of the island of Borkum in the North Sea. The Nordlicht area consists of two separate locations: Nordlicht 1 with a capacity of approximately 980 MW and Nordlicht 2 with 630 MW.
CS WIND Offshore calls the contracts "an important milestone". The company has a long history of supplying products to Vattenfall. Among other things, CS WIND Offshore recently produced 41 TPs for Vattenfall's Vesterhav Syd and Nord offshore wind farms in Denmark, which were inaugurated in the autumn of 2024.
- We are excited to be part of Vattenfall's groundbreaking Nordlicht projects. These contracts demonstrate the trust and cooperation that exists between our two companies and form a solid foundation for successful project implementation, says Hee-Joung Moon, CEO of CS WIND Offshore, in a press release.
Vattenfall is developing and building the Nordlicht cluster in partnership with BASF, which owns 49 percent of the projects. When completed, the wind farms are expected to produce approximately 6 terawatt hours (TWh) of electricity per year, equivalent to the electricity consumption of 1.7 million German households.
Subject to the final investment decision, which is expected to be made in 2025, the offshore construction of Nordlicht 1 and 2 is expected to begin in 2026, with full operation planned for 2028.
Manufactured in Aalborg
Vattenfall is pleased to have successfully secured an agreement with CS Wind Offshore.
- Transition pieces are a vital component of the Nordlicht wind farms, as they ensure a seamless integration of turbines and foundations. By working with CS WIND Offshore, we ensure high-quality solutions that are in line with our commitment to delivering reliable, renewable energy to millions of households. This collaboration underlines the importance of strong partnerships in the energy transition, Mats Vikholm, Head of Project Delivery & Engineering at Vattenfall.
The production of the 68 transition pieces for Nordlicht 1 and the 44 transition pieces for Nordlicht 2 will begin at CS WIND Offshore's production facility in Aalborg Port, Denmark, from mid-2025. The order is made possible by recent investments in the production facilities in North Jutland, which have improved factory capacity and enabled the storage of more TPs and other components.
- I am proud of our team's commitment to securing these agreements, which underline our ability to meet our customers' needs for transition pieces for +15MW wind turbines at our Aalborg facility. We remain dedicated to supporting job retention in Aalborg, where we benefit from a strong wind industry with solid local partnerships, says Hee-Joung Moon, CEO of CS WIND Offshore.
