Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and Norway's Statkraft are teaming up to develop Statkraft's 2.2 GW Irish offshore wind portfolio. CIP has thus acquired half of the portfolio for an undisclosed price, the parties announced.
Specifically, the new partnership includes the three phases of the North Irish Sea Array (NISA) and the Bore Array. The proposed location for NISA is off the coast of Dublin, while the Bore Array is planned to be located in the Celtic Sea. The expected investment to lift these offshore wind projects is over four billion euros in the period up to 2030.
- We are very pleased to enter the Irish offshore market and look forward to developing these exciting projects together with Statkraft. By combining CIP's industrial background and international experience in offshore wind with Statkraft's experience with Irish renewable energy, the partnership will enable the delivery of renewable energy to Irish homes and businesses and contribute to achieving the government's ambitious decarbonization goals, says Nischal Agarwal, Partner at CIP.
Ireland, which has a target of seven GW of offshore wind by 2030, is set to hold its first offshore wind tender here in early 2023. Seven projects have already been given special status in the tender, and the 500 MW NISA1 is among these projects.
Statkraft hopes that the collaboration with CIP can also be an advantage for the company in the Norwegian domestic market.
- The agreement and collaboration with CIP gives us access to expertise and experience from both fixed and floating offshore wind projects. The projects in Ireland will make us even better positioned for the development of both Sørlige Nordsjø II, Utsira Nord and future projects in Norway.
