The offshore wind turbines have growing pains, and thus the blades also get bigger. It causes busyness, i.a. in North Jutland at Blaest - Blade Test Center, which has made the decision to expand their test facilities with a new test bench. Wind turbine blades of over 100 meters must be able to be tested.
- It is the primary engine in our strategic focus to be able to meet the market and our customers' needs. With this new test bench, we are well prepared for the coming years of operation. We expect to see even longer wings within a number of years, and we are determined to also be able to meet the testing needs for these wing lengths," says Erik Steen Jensen, Managing Director of Blaest.
The decision to invest in the new test bench comes as a consequence of an agreement with Siemens Gamesa to test the blades for the wind turbine manufacturer's SG 14-236 DD wind turbine, which will have blades that are 115 meters long. According to Siemens Gamesa's Head of Technology Development Blades, Peter Fuglsang, good test facilities are essential for the company to realize its offshore wind ambitions.
- Access to large test facilities for product validation is very important to Siemens Gamesa as we strive to lead the offshore wind revolution and lower the cost of offshore wind. Siemens Gamesa looks forward to strengthening the collaboration with Blaest, who we consider to be a partner with high quality, reliability and extensive documented experience, he says.
