Iceland's first wind farm is on its way in Þjórsárdalur in the central highlands approximately 140 km east of Reykjavik. 28 turbines will be built here as a supplement to the country's existing renewable energy production. For this project, the Aarsleff company Ístak hf will pour foundations and lay electrical infrastructure for the turbines. This is what Per Aarsleff Holding A/S writes in a press release.

- We will have the opportunity to bring many of our competencies into play, as we will both construct 28 reinforced concrete foundations and a transformer station of approximately 1,200 square meters, as well as bury over 14 kilometers of high-voltage cables, says Karl Andreasen, CEO of Ístak hf, who is also managing director of Ístak hf.

The project has a total contract value of just over 280 million. DKK, and work is already underway. The Icelandic climate requires a tight schedule, as snow and low temperatures only allow concrete pouring for short periods of the year. Therefore, 16 of the total 28 foundations will be established this year and the remaining 12 next year.

According to Per Aarsleff A/S, the contract was awarded because Ístak submitted the lowest bid and at the same time presented a plan for a low CO2 footprint. This includes, among other things, the use of electrical equipment, biodiesel and optimization of logistics and material sources to reduce emissions.

The project is expected to be completed on August 31, 2027.
