MIDDELFART: On Monday, Middelfart City Council adopted the plan for the future of renewable energy in the municipality, which a majority recently reached an agreement on. The agreement states that the municipality will increase the production of wind and solar energy tenfold in order to become self-sufficient in electricity from renewable energy by 2030.
The city council meeting was held at Aulby School and combined with a citizens' meeting. According to Fyens Stiftstidende, the citizens in attendance were anything but satisfied with the prospect of having solar cells and wind turbines as neighbors. Several, on the other hand, were clearly frustrated that the proposed areas were allegedly not designated by the municipality because they are the most suitable, "but rather because of the landowners' and energy companies' desire for profit".
Climate Director Thorbjørn Sørensen defended the municipality's plans and emphasized that it is a binding task to produce more renewable energy.
- So it's about us learning to have a dialogue with each other and not just taking those popular points of view. Because we have to produce more renewable energy. We also have to take our responsibility, right? it was stated, among other things.
The municipality's plans to establish energy plants also state that citizens who are affected by the establishment of renewable energy plants will be involved. "There must be a systematic and clear involvement of citizens and investors in the processing of the specific projects," it says, among other things. in the agreement text.
The plan for the future of renewable energy was adopted with votes of 16 in favor and 9 against.
