The electricity company Andel Energi has not presented a price surcharge to customers clearly and distinctly enough. This is the conclusion of the Consumer Ombudsman, who has tightened the prohibition on misleading information and the duty of information towards the electricity company.
- Consumers must know what it costs to have electricity supplied by the electricity companies, says Consumer Ombudsman Torben Jensen in a press release.
Specifically, this is a so-called cost surcharge for trade and credit costs in the electricity price. The surcharge was stated on Andel Energi's website as 0.52 øre per kilowatt. According to the Consumer Ombudsman, it was not stated clearly enough on the website that it is a variable surcharge that can change from month to month.
Andel Energi states in a written response that it is not possible that there are customers who have paid a higher price than what has been communicated on the website. This is because the surcharge has remained stable at 0.52 øre for the past five months.
The electricity company's commercial director, Josefine Walter, says that Andel Energi has followed the authorities' instructions and updated its website.
- But it is paradoxical to receive public criticism for a case that involves such small amounts and that has not affected anyone, she says.
The Consumer Ombudsman expects to begin negotiations on guidelines for price information in the electricity sector "soon", according to the press release.
The aim is to make information about electricity prices more transparent and easier to compare for consumers. The Consumer Ombudsman believes that there is a clear need for guidelines in the electricity industry.
Guidelines that illustrate and clarify the legislative requirements for how "the electricity price and its components must be disclosed to consumers", the announcement states.
