In August last year, a small PtX plant for the production of green ammonia was inaugurated in the West Jutland town of Ramme. The plant produces ammonia with the help of wind turbines and solar cells nearby, and has created activity in the area.

Lemvig Municipality will try to get more of this activity to the area. Therefore, the municipal council has decided to apply to the Minister for Cities and Rural Areas for permission to convert an area at Klimapark Ramme from a rural zone to an urban zone. The change will enable the establishment of companies that test and demonstrate new technology using surplus resources from the PtX plant in Ramme.

- Now we are really seeing the potential in the work with green transition and renewable energy production unfolding. It is a very positive development that is underway around the plant in Ramme, and we look forward to following how the green energy can soon be further refined here in the area, rather than simply being sent further down through the country. It will have great significance locally, and we are pleased that the companies that are on the way can also create that many jobs here in the municipality, says Lemvig Municipality Mayor Erik Flyvholm (V) in a press release.

Two projects want to move in

Two companies are already investigating the possibilities of establishing themselves in the area. The NH3 Spark project is developing an ammonia engine for shipping in collaboration with MAN, DTU and Skovgaard Energy. At the same time, the Swedish company WA3RM is planning to establish a land-based production of sustainable warm-water shrimp using excess heat from PtX production.

Both companies are dependent on proximity to either ammonia, residual flows or excess heat from Skovgaard Energy's PtX plant "REDDAP" in Ramme. Therefore, it is necessary to apply to the minister for permission to convert the surrounding area into an urban zone. Regarding the plans for the area around the plant in Ramme, CEO of Skovgaard Energy Niels Erik Madsen says:

- In Klimapark Ramme, we have created a unique place where the green transition can unfold. We are pleased that WA3RM has seen the potential in the area and chosen to establish itself here. With the project, surplus flows from our wind, solar, Power-to-X and X-to-Power production will enter a circular circuit and create even more value and innovation - both for the climate and for local business development.

According to Skovgaard Energy, the plans will contribute to local business development and create new jobs in Northwest Jutland. It is expected that between 50 and 100 employees will be employed in the new companies when operations begin.
