Almost two years ago, an agreement for PtX production on the former areas of the Enstedværket plant between the Port of Aabenraa and Linde Gas fell through. But now a new agreement between the port and the Danish cleantech company Kvasir Technologies means that production of green fuels will still take place.
The port and Kvasir Technologies have thus agreed on an agreement that means that the Port of Aabenraa will be home to the company's first commercial biofuel production plant. This is stated by the Port of Aabenraa in a press release.
Kvasir Technologies is working with a new technology that converts biomass into green fuels that can replace fossil fuels without changing the existing infrastructure.
The new facility at the Port of Aabenraa, which according to Børsen will cost half a billion kroner, will be the first of its kind and an important milestone in Kvasir Technologies' ambition to create a new green alternative to the energy-intensive sector.
- We are proud to be able to establish our first commercial facility here in Aabenraa. The location at the Port of Aabenraa gives us access to strategically important infrastructure and local forces that have an eye for sustainable solutions, says Ulrik Falkenberg Lending, CCO of Kvasir Technologies.
Agreement result of focused efforts
According to the Port of Aabenraa, the attraction of Kvasir Technologies is the result of a strong collaboration between the Port of Aabenraa and the Municipality of Aabenraa. The two parties have joined forces and have joined forces to create optimal frameworks for innovative companies that prioritize sustainability.
- The new production facility and the collaboration with Kvasir Technologies confirm the potential that a joint City Council saw when they allocated ten million DKK to "More power for the green transition", which was used, among other things, to hire a strategic business developer. It helps put Aabenraa Municipality on the map as a place where innovation and sustainability go hand in hand, says Mayor Jan Riber Jakobsen (K).
The agreement with Kvasir means that the former coal storage area at Aabenraa Port South (the former Ensted Power Plant) will be converted into a state-of-the-art bulk terminal that will facilitate the distribution of biomass and strengthen Aabenraa Port's position as South Jutland's sustainable port.
- The agreement with Kvasir Technologies is a concrete result of the Aabenraa Port Development Plan 2055, which the board adopted in the spring of 2024. In the plan, we focus on making Aabenraa Port a central hub for green transition and sustainable development. The establishment of Kvasir Technologies shows that our strategy is working, says Erwin Andresen, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aabenraa Port.
