Russian Gazprom has stopped gas supplies to the Dutch company GasTerra. Gazprom announced this on Tuesday, according to Reuters. This is after GasTerra rejected the Russian demand that payment be made in rubles.

- Gazprom has completely stopped gas supplies to GasTerra due to non-payment in rubles, Gazprom announced.

Russia has already stopped gas supplies to Finland, Poland and Bulgaria, which have also refused to pay for the gas in Russian currency. The demand for payment in rubles was announced by President Vladimir Putin in March. This applies to "unfriendly states", it said.

This came after the EU countries had imposed tough sanctions against Russia due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Netherlands gets approximately 15 percent of its gas from Russia. In the EU, the average for the 27 member states is around 40 percent.

Denmark also risks Gazprom turning off the gas taps. Danish Ørsted is another of the European energy companies that has refused to pay for Russian gas in rubles. Ørsted announced on Monday that the company has prepared for Gazprom to shut off the gas in response. Ørsted has therefore filled its gas storage facilities in Denmark and Germany.

Ørsted is in contact with the Danish authorities. They have drawn up a plan for what will happen if there is not enough gas for all Danish gas customers, the company announced on Monday.
