The average gas price fell by 15.5 percent for households and 16.0 percent for business customers in the first half of 2024, according to a new updated gas price statistics from the Danish Energy Agency.

Households experienced an average decrease of 15.5 percent in gas prices, which corresponds to a saving of DKK 0.66/normal cubic meter called Nm3 compared to the second half of 2023. Business customers also saw a significant decrease, with an average reduction of 16.0 percent, which means that they paid DKK 0.61/Nm3 less for gas. The Danish Energy Agency writes in a press release.

The gas price thus fell more than the average gas spot price, which fell by DKK 0.63/Nm3, corresponding to 19.6 percent. in the same period.

Although the gas price for businesses and households was higher than the spot price for natural gas in the first half of 2024, business customers with low gas consumption paid an average of DKK 0.64/Nm3 more than the spot price, while the largest business customers paid DKK 0.48/Nm3 more. For households, the difference was even greater, as they paid an average of DKK 0.99/Nm3 more than the spot price.

Development in gas prices for business customers and households

The vast majority of business customers, almost 90 percent, are small consumers with an annual gas consumption of less than 22,849 Nm3. Although they make up the majority of business customers, they only account for around 10 percent of the total gas consumption among business customers.

Approximately 10 percent of the business customers are medium-sized consumers with an annual gas consumption of between 22,849 and 2.3 million Nm3, and they account for almost 40 percent of the total business gas consumption.

Although large business customers constitute a very small part of the total number of business customers (only around 0.3 percent), they consume a very large part of the total amount of gas. In fact, these few customers account for almost 51 percent of all the gas used by business customers. This shows that large business customers have a significantly higher gas consumption than small and medium-sized customers.

Household gas consumption accounts for over 28 percent of the total gas consumption. Medium-sized consumers with an annual gas consumption of 475 - 4750 Nm3 account for around 96 percent. of total household consumption.
