The EU's sixth sanctions package with the phasing out of Russian oil has major consequences for some EU countries. That is why it is taking so long to reach an agreement.
This is according to Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod (S) on his way to a meeting of EU foreign ministers on Monday in Brussels.
However, the Danish Foreign Minister still expects that it will be possible to reach an agreement.
- There are some countries for whom this package really hurts because they are so dependent on oil imports, says Jeppe Kofod.
He emphasizes that Denmark supports the EU Commission's proposal to phase out Russian crude oil within six months. According to the EU Commission's proposal, refined Russian oil products must be phased out within nine months.
- With Russian aggression and the security situation we are facing in Europe, we must introduce the harshest possible sanctions. Inclusive in the energy area. That is the Danish position, and I want to make that completely clear, says Jeppe Kofod.
