Critics want new owners for Energinet: Demand a showdown with the minister's dual role

The problems in Energinet have now reached a level where, according to the Conservatives and the Danish Business Association, there is a need for a showdown with the entire ownership structure. The two parties propose that the monopoly company behind the electricity grid be moved away from the Ministry of Energy and Energy Minister Lars Aagaard (M). This is reported by Finans. They fear that Energinet has been burdened with political prestige projects such as Energiø Bornholm, the North Sea and the hydrogen pipeline to Germany, which may have weakened the company's focus on its primary task: expanding the electricity grid.

- When a central company like Energinet, which manages critical infrastructure, is about to collapse under the weight of tasks and political demands, we must ask: is the ownership placed correctly?, says Dina Raabjerg, energy spokesperson for the Conservative Party.

Energy Minister Lars Aagaard (M) is open to discussing the ownership of Energinet, but doubts that it will accelerate the expansion of the electricity grid. He points out that delays are primarily due to external factors such as environmental approvals and supply chains, and warns that a change of ownership could create unnecessary complexity.
