On Wednesday, there were surprisingly two bids for the state's CCS pool of DKK 28.7 billion. DKK. For a long time it seemed that only one of the ten prequalified bidders would submit a final bid. The extra bidder is the extra bidder is really good news, says the Confederation of Danish Industry.
The business organization assesses that two bids received in the state's CCS pool are an important step for the development of CO2 capture and storage in Denmark. The Danish Energy Agency will now assess the applications with a final decision in April.
According to DI, the bids mark a preliminary milestone for CCS, because several players are ready to bid with specific projects. This can help strengthen the development of the entire value chain for CO2 capture and storage in Denmark.
- It is very pleasing that the Danish Energy Agency has received two bids. Danish business is really stepping up climate action here. Because when companies take big steps into CCS, it helps to ensure that we translate political climate ambitions into real action, says Anne Højer Simonsen, head of climate policy at the Confederation of Danish Industries.
DI also points out that interest in the CCS tender has been significant. A year ago, 16 projects applied to be prequalified. In May 2025, 10 projects were prequalified, and in August 2025, eight companies submitted an initial bid. The Danish Energy Agency will now process the applications until the final award decision in April.
- CO2 capture and storage is crucial for Danish and European climate policy. We simply won't reach our climate goals without it, says Anne Højer Simonsen.
