The state CCS pool of DKK 28.7 billion, which received binding bids from two bidders on February 4, has received considerable media attention - also internationally. According to Dansk Fjernvarme's area manager for CCS, Jannick H. Buhl, many countries are following the development in Denmark closely.
- We in Denmark have set ambitious climate goals, and have a desire to lead the way with green initiatives such as CO2 capture and storage. Therefore, many countries and thus also the media are looking at the development in Denmark in relation to how to structure and develop CCS nationally. At the same time, we have an energy and heating sector that is closely connected and that provides good opportunities to develop CO2 capture while maintaining a secure energy and heating supply, says Jannick H. Buhl to Danish District Heating.
Internationally, there are e.g. concern about whether the outcome of the Danish CCS pool - where only two out of 10 players submitted bids - may dampen interest in developing the CCS market further: "Of course, CCS is a new market, but if nothing else a necessary market if we are to achieve the goal of a climate-neutral future. It is therefore also important to share knowledge across national borders and focus on the fact that we in Denmark also have an ambitious goal of CO2 capture, which the pool was established on, and that this helps pave the way for experiences and a CCS market that can be scaled, says Jannick H. Buhl.
